Activities of Scandinavian Interest in New York

Sweden Day <>

Celebrating Swedish Midsummer in "The Bronx".

This long-standing annual event is usually held on the 2nd Saturday in June at the Manhem Beach Club on the shores of Long Island Sound:
[ 658 Clarence Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465 (718) 822-8965 ].
The events of the day include food, music and folk dancing by the young (Barnklubben Elsa Rix #1, and the not-quite-so-young (Swedish Folkdancers of NY).

There are 3 highlights which everyone in attendance really looks forward to:

  1. The presentation of the Honoree of the Year (Man/Woman/Couple/Organization) which is given to worthy recipients who have contributed in large measure to the Swedish-American community in the New York metropolitan area; and
  2. The annual selection of Miss Sweden Day where a bevy of beauties compete for the title in word and deed to represent the Swedish-American community at various events throughout her reign; and
  3. The awarding of the T. Edward and Alvalene P. Karlsson Scholarship Awards to worthy students. It is also the occasion when the NY District Master presents the NY District Lodge No. 4 Scholarships.
